What does a future in carpentry look like?

Currently in the UK, there is a shortage of skills in the construction sector. It is more important than ever to start thinking about a career in Carpentry. It is well known that Carpenters are vital to house building, and with the current increase of new houses being built, a career in carpentry is certainly appealing.

The skills you can gain are:

  • Measuring, marking up, cutting, shaping, fitting and finishing timber
  • Using a range of hand and power tools
  • Installing floor joists, floorboards, roof trusses and wall partitions
  • Fitting interiors such as staircases, doors, skirting boards, cupboards and kitchens
  • Putting up frames for bridges, roads, dams and buildings
  • Gaining knowledge of different types of wood and their uses

But what careers can I achieve with these skills?

With a carpentry qualification, you can work for huge companies such as Balfour Beatty Plc, Kier Group Plc, Galliford Try Plc etc. Being in the construction industry for many years, you can eventually become a supervisor or project manager! This can drastically increase your yearly income. As a qualified tradesman, you could even start your own company! Being self-employed has multiple advantages: flexible hours, being your own manager and all profits are big wins.

It is worth mentioning that the carpentry course does not limit you to just woodwork. With the skills you will acquire with the course can benefit you in various areas on construction!

How can we help?

Our Level 1 Carpentry course allows you to develop your skills to maximise employment opportunities. This is a one day a week course run over 5 weeks. It is made up of 80% practical work and 20% theory, which will enable you to gain the hands-on experiences you need to start a new career within the Carpentry industry.

The bespoke course is run by John, our specialist tutor. John has been working within the construction industry for 30 years. A multi skills expert, John now imparts his expertise, knowledge and skills in helping others to carve successful careers in the industry.
